Raising Hope Through Education

Empowering Children. Strengthening Families. Transforming Communities.

Jane Matovu Foundation is an education-centred charitable organisation working with vulnerable children and families in Lwengo District, Uganda. We help expand access to education while strengthening the families and communities that make lasting opportunity possible.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela

Why We Exist

Opportunity should not depend on family income.

In rural Uganda, many talented children are forced to interrupt their education because their families cannot meet the cost of fees, uniforms, books, transport, or other school requirements. The Foundation exists to remove these barriers while helping families build the resilience needed to support their children over the long term.

A Legacy of Sacrifice

Inspired by Jane Matovu.

The Foundation takes its name from Jane Matovu, a mother and community leader whose life demonstrates what sacrifice for education can achieve. Widowed while her children were young, she persisted through hardship and educated all five of her children to university level. Her example continues to shape our commitment to children, families, and community service.

Beyond Scholarships

Education works best when families can stand on their own.

Our work combines educational support with mentorship, mindset change, livelihood support, and community engagement. The goal is not dependency, but a sustainable pathway in which families increasingly participate in financing their children’s education and building stronger futures.
